Heart-melting video of Slovak policemen playing with Ukrainian refugee children

Amidst disturbing scenes erupting from the Russo-Ukraine war, video of some Slovakian policemen fleeing their country with children from Ukraine is melting hearts online. In a post on Facebook by Policia Slovenskj Republiki (Slovak Police Force), two soldiers can be seen with two children as they walk around laughing. In between their responsibilities, the cops take out time to make fun of the kids and they seem to be having a great time while looking up to their mother. Slovak Police Force wrote:

“It’s awesome: authentic childhood joy and laugh at least for a while. At the border, police, soldiers, firefighters and other responsible people try to be very sympathetic and help the kids in the winter and through the long and tiring journey.” The latter create more pleasant waiting moments. Moments like this give us hope that the war will soon end and humanity will triumph over evil.”

More than 1.7 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale offensive on February 24, according to the latest UN figures. UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, recorded 1,735,068 refugees on its dedicated website, 200,000 more than the previous count on Sunday. The United Nations children’s agency UNICEF believes that about half of them are young people. The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russia is investing tremendous energy in negotiating a possible peace deal with Ukraine that could swiftly halt a Russian military operation there. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “Our delegation is making enormous efforts and shows greater readiness to them than to the other side.”

Asked about a Financial Times report that Ukraine and Russia have made significant progress on a tentative peace plan, Peskov said: “It’s not right – there are elements that are right but overall that’s wrong. ” He said the Kremlin would announce progress when there was progress to report.
