As Delhi crossed the 40-degree mark this week, Skymet Weather, a private forecaster, on Wednesday issued a warning with the prediction that heat wave conditions will prevail by the end of this month and may see a decline in early May.

The highest temperature in the national capital was recorded at 44.2 degrees Celsius at Siri Fort Complex on Wednesday. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has also been issued for Delhi.

The IMD has said in its forecast that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by about 2 degrees Celsius over most parts of Northwest India during the next 3 days followed by a fall of about 2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said the maximum temperature was 42-44 degrees Celsius in many parts of western Rajasthan and Vidarbha; 40-42°C isolated over parts of North Madhya Pradesh, Interior Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh and Southern parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, North Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Saurashtra-Kutch, Northern parts of Interior Maharashtra and many more Parts of East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Delhi, Southern parts of Madhya Pradesh, parts of Telangana and Gujarat region, Northern parts of East Uttar Pradesh and Rayalaseema and isolated parts of Punjab and Madhya Maharashtra

Heat wave conditions over Vidarbha, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during next 5 days;

Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Interior Gangetic West Bengal and Interior Odisha during 27-30 April

Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during 28 Apr-01 May;

Bihar during April 27-29, Chhattisgarh during April 28-30;

Northern part of Gujarat State on 27th and 28th April, 2022

Skymet Weather said that the heatwave will not only be limited to Delhi but will also affect the residents of North India.

Skymet Weather wrote on Twitter, “These heatwave conditions will persist till the end of this month and humid conditions will affect the residents of North India. However, heatwave conditions may see a backseat in early May.”

“Temperature is expected to remain above 43 degree Celsius. Maximum temperature above 45 degree Celsius may also be witnessed over the state of Rajasthan. Meanwhile, IMD scientist RK Jenamani also informed that a dust storm is likely to occur over North India on April 29, which will lead to a drop in temperature from May 1.

According to the IMD, heatwave conditions have been forecast at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Interior Gangetic West Bengal, Interior Odisha and northern parts of Gujarat. Apart from this, Manmohan Singh, Director of Meteorological Center Chandigarh also said that the temperature is being recorded hotter than normal.

“Temperature will increase in the coming days, heat wave warning has been issued at some places in Punjab and Haryana,” he said.

Notably, northwest India recorded the hottest March this year in 122 years, with the mean maximum temperature surpassing the previous record of 30.67 °C in 2004.
