Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya for the next two days. Heavy rain Predictions are given for these two locations. A red alert has been issued for Arunachal Pradesh as well as for Saturday as the monsoon has covered the entire Northeast region.
A red alert from the IMD is a warning to the disaster management agencies to stay on their toes and take action to prevent possible incidents due to excess rainfall.
In its special weather bulletin on Thursday, the IMD said an east-west trough extends from southeast Uttar Pradesh up to Manipur at 0.9 km above mean sea level over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Assam and Meghalaya. A trough is also extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to Interior Odisha at 1.5 km above sea level. Due to the prevailing weather systems, the Met Office has said that widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over the northeastern states from June 9 to June 13.
Issuing a red alert, the IMD has warned of light to moderate rain at most places in Assam and Meghalaya with heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similar rains will occur in Arunachal on Saturday as well.
According to IMD data, Meghalaya received 110 per cent more rainfall than normal on Thursday. At 55% departure from normal, Arunachal received excess rainfall, while Assam received rainfall in the normal range (10% departure). Nagaland also received 54 per cent more rainfall than normal on Thursday. On the other hand, Mizoram (-66%) and Tripura (-82%) received very less rainfall during the day.
Since the start of the monsoon season on June 1, IMD data shows that Meghalaya has recorded significant excess rainfall (89% above normal), while Nagaland has received excess rainfall (44% above normal). happened. During this period, rainfall occurred in Arunachal (6% above normal) and Assam (-4% above normal). Manipur (-53%), Mizoram (-43%) and Tripura (-49%) received deficient rainfall between June 1 and 9.
