Heavy rains flood in Srikakulam district

Incessant rains led to floods in several rivers including Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Bahuda and others, though the situation was under control. Rivers that had been in spate for the past one week had also experienced heavy flow on September 13, accompanied by heavy rains within the catchment areas of neighboring Odisha state as well as within Srikakulam district limits.

Meanwhile, in Srikakulam town, rain has thrown life out of gear and nearby tanks have developed cracks. Srikakulam Collector Srikesh B. Lathkar and other officials visited Pedapadu and other areas to review the relief work, including improving the drainage system. Srikakulam town received 58.8 mm of rain till Tuesday morning. Gara Mandal received the highest rainfall of 128.4 mm and Polaki 64.2 mm.

Narasanapeta, Amdalavalasa and other towns and divisional headquarters received heavy rains. Shrikesh has directed the officials to remain vigilant for a few days to prevent untoward incidents due to floods and heavy rains.
