During the shooting of the last season of Big Boss, she was stranded in Hyderabad and decided to take a quick tour to see what the weavers were doing in the surrounding areas. In Chittoor, she found a white cloth, which she immediately fell in love with. Then he painted it ombre and showed it to the lotus which he also liked. When told that the cloth was Khadi, he suggested making some more clothes out of it. The actor has a long association with Khadi as his father, a lawyer, wore this only garment in court.

The team at KH House in Khaddar is happy that their venture will benefit the weavers. Currently working with a few groups in Chittoor, Kancheepuram and Tiruppur, Amrita is researching for independent groups to work on in the near future. “The first vision is to have weavers under our roof and create different variations in weaving over the next six to eight months,” she says. While Amrita has a free hand in the creative process, Kamal gives his input. “He likes to keep the design simple so that the threads speak for themselves. Nothing over the top.”
