Here’s Your Ayurvedic Guide To Welcome The Beginning Of Winters

After the sweetness of autumn comes the winter season. It is time for quiet resignation as there is a sudden wink in the air. Nature has its own way of balancing the energies according to the different seasons. As you transition into cold weather, you instinctively gravitate towards hot foods.

Ayurveda considers early winters good for digestion. Disease resistance is found to be better as compared to spring or monsoon season. This is the time to work on your immunity so that your body is ready to ward off allergies and infections. A lot of seasonal pulses and spices should be consumed to balance your Kapha (combination of water and earth element).

Ayurvedic expert Dr Zeel Gandhi suggests that herbs, spices and other foods should be consumed early in the winter season to stay warm and boost immunity. He told Hindustan Times, “If you take care of kapha in early winter, you will not fall ill in the spring season and can avoid acute infection in case of Covid attack.”

Three Herbs for Nature

According to Dr. Gandhi, herbs ensure that they keep Kapha flowing and healthy. They help in keeping the body healthy such that too much kapha does not accumulate.

The best herb for Kapha people in this season is Trikatu:

This includes:

  • black pepper (black pepper)
  • Garlic
  • long chili (pippali)

The best herbs used for pitta people this season are Trisugandhi:

  • Cardamom
  • Cinnamon (Cinnamon)
  • bay leaves (bay leaves)

Dr. Gandhi says that Vata and Kapha can use Trikatu while Pitta can carry Triphala with them. He also mentioned that pitta people should avoid taking Trikatu in excess as it has a tendency to increase heat.

Winter Spices: Cinnamon, Turmeric, Black Pepper

One should benefit from a lot of spices as winter is the ideal time to enjoy them. There are many ways to include cinnamon, turmeric and black pepper in your diet.

Many types of vegetables are also found here during the winter season. You can make soup from many vegetables and enjoy it in winters.
