High level panel to probe ‘irregularities’ at MSN Charities

The state government has constituted a three-member high-level committee to probe into the alleged encroachment and financial irregularities of Malladi Satyalingam Nayakar (MSN) Charities’ land in Kakinada.

The committee is headed by Regional Joint Commissioner, Endowments Department, MV Suresh Babu (Rajamahendravaram), Deputy Commissioner, Kakinada, M. Vijaya Babu and Assistant Commissioner Ramesh Babu.

The 1,686 acres of land, several educational institutions, and three temples of MSN Charity were brought under the purview of MSN Charity Pareeksha Samiti, Department of Endowments, in 1971. (MSNCPS) said. In 1912, the MSN charity was founded by Malladi Satyalingam Naykar (1840–1915), a ship merchant from the fishing community, to provide free education to the needy.

“Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inquired about the status of MSN Charity in a recent meeting on the proposed merger of aided institutions. He constituted a three-member committee to probe the alleged encroachment of land, revenue, pending cases and educational matters of MSN Charities,” said Mr. Vijaya Babu.

“MSN Charities currently owns 1,258 acres. We have been investigating every aspect of MSN Charity since 2017. The committee will submit a report to enable the government to decide on its future,” he said. The Endowments Department has so far not opted to surrender the employees or assets of MSN Charities proposed under the merger scheme. The members of MSNCPS under the leadership met Mr. Vijaya Babu on Friday and urged him not to consent to the merger of MSN Charity.

“The estimated land revenue should be ₹5 crore. However, due to irregularities in the annual auction for the tenancy of the land, it has fallen to ₹2 crore,” alleged Malladi Raju and other members in their letter to Mr. Vijaya Babu.
