Some boys of DVS College in Shivamogga joined girls in protest against the ban on wearing hijab on February 17. The boys said that if girls in hijab were not allowed to attend classes they would also not attend classes.

Many girls reached the college gate with hijab and the staff stopped them. The college staff and the police tried to persuade her to attend class by removing the hijab. Since he refused to move, he was not allowed inside. Some of the boys argued that girls had been wearing the hijab for so many years, and that they should be allowed to attend classes.

The police asked the students to leave the college premises if they were not attending classes as the district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC within 200 meters of all colleges.
