Himachal Pradesh: Congress fulfills election promise, old pension scheme intact

The Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has fulfilled its promise made before last year’s assembly elections. The state government has approved the restoration of the old pension scheme in its first cabinet meeting held on Friday.

Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, Sukhu said that from today the benefit of the old pension scheme would be given and a notification in this regard would be issued soon.

He said that we will fulfill our promise to provide 1,500 per month to women and a sub-committee with cabinet ministers including Chander Kumar, Dhani Ram Shandil, Anirudh Singh and Jagat Negi has been formed to prepare a road map for its distribution. 1,500 per month in 30 days.

He said that the matter has been studied in depth and despite some objections by the Finance Officers, the issue has been resolved and all the employees will be covered under OPS under the New Pension Scheme.

Sukhu also said that the state is in debt 75,000 crore due to financial mismanagement and extravagance by the previous BJP government.

“We had informed the government that the liability under NPS for 2022-23 1,632 crore out of which the employees and the government will deposit 680 crores and 952 crores respectively while the liability under OPS will be only 147 crore,” said Pradeep Thakur, president of the New Pension Scheme Employees Federation of Himachal.
