Himachal Pradesh: Four highways closed due to snowfall, disrupting normal life

Following heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, several roads, including four national highways, have been closed and several power supply and water supply schemes disrupted.

Himachal Pradesh has been receiving heavy snowfall for the past few days, bringing normal life and activities to a standstill. Shimla in Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall on Sunday morning.

Several roads including four National Highways (NH) have been closed and power supply and water supply have also been snapped at many places in the state.

The State Disaster Management Authority in its press note said, “Due to heavy snowfall, 731 roads including four national highways were closed, 1365 power supply schemes disrupted, 102 water supply schemes disrupted and 3220 power supply schemes, out of which 1,955 have been restored.” “

The India Meteorological Department today informed that very dense fog is observed at isolated places including Kalpa region of Himachal Pradesh, where the visibility has reduced to 50 metres.

According to the agency, heavy rain or snowfall has been predicted in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Light intensity rain/ drizzle has been predicted over parts of Uttar Pradesh. Significantly, Delhi-NCR has received rain in the last 24 hours.

“Today’s 0830 hrs, very dense fog at different places in WP (Agra 00 km), Madhya Maharashtra (Mahabaleshwar 25 m) and Punjab (Bhatinda 50 m), HP (Kalpa 50 m), Uttarakhand (Mukteshwar 50 m) Dense fog covers over Jharkhand (Ranchi 50m) and Delhi (Palam 800m & SFD 1200m),” the weather agency tweeted.

The Regional Meteorological Center in Shimla said the temperature in the city dropped to minus one degree Celsius.
