Students of Hindu College have protested allegedly due to “restrictions” imposed to curtail the three-day cultural festival ‘Mecca’.

Students of Delhi University’s Hindu College reportedly staged a protest on the campus after the administration reportedly asked them to shorten the three-day cultural festival by a day.

Students are sitting on a dharna in the college, saying that the “restrictions” come at the last moment when preparations have been completed.

Principal Anju Srivastava has refused to comment on the matter. The students have shared several videos of the protest in which they can be seen staging a sit-in at the college gate.

In a video, Principal Srivastava can be seen asking the students to leave the spot and talk to them calmly.

The college is going to host its fest ‘Makkah’ on 26th, 27th and 28th April.

However, as the students were busy with the preparations, the principal told them that it should be restricted to one day only.

Haresh, a third-year student at the college, claimed, “The principal told us that there are expectations that one lakh people may gather and the college does not have the capacity to handle such a huge crowd.”

“Also, the principal is worried about the recent incident in IPCW. They are telling us all this at the last minute.” Girl students of the All Women IP College (IPCW) have alleged that on March 28, during a cultural festival, some men harassed several girl students by climbing the boundary wall of the college campus.

Another Hindu college student said that Mecca is very famous and they look forward to it throughout the year.

“The college cannot impose such restrictions. They should allow the celebration (for the entire three days),” said Harsh Vardhan, a second-year student.
