The Cyber Crime Police of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Saturday arrested 48-year-old SJ Gopal alias Mount Gopal of Hindu Tamilar Pervai for circulating defamatory material on social media.
He was arrested on the basis of a complaint by Said Ali, who alleged that Gopal had circulated derogatory content on Twitter while hurting religious sentiments.
Police said Gopal has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
On him publishes sections 153 (incitement with intent to cause riot), 153A(1)(a) (promoting enmity between different groups), 505(1)(b) (Whoever makes a statement, or transmits). Indian Penal Code, or which is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public).
