Hindu Sena put up posters near JNU main gate, warning of ‘strong action against saffron insult’

Nearly a week after clashes broke out at a hostel over allegedly serving non-vegetarian food during Ram Navami, Hindu Sena has put up posters and saffron flags near the main gate of Jawaharlal Nehru University and surrounding areas.

It also warned of “strong action” if it is an “insult to saffron”.

Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta said the posters reading “saffron (saffron) JNU” were put up by Surjit Singh Yadav, the national vice president of the right-wing organisation.

In a video circulated on WhatsApp, Gupta is purportedly heard saying in Hindi, “Saffron is being insulted regularly in the JNU campus. We want to warn those who do this. Improve your ways.” We won’t tolerate it.”

“We respect your ideology and every religion. But insulting saffron will not be tolerated and we can take strong steps,” he said.

Manoj C, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) said, “On Friday morning, it was noticed that some flags and banners have been put up on the road and adjoining areas of JNU. They were immediately removed due to the recent incident and appropriate legal action Was gone. is being taken.” The Hindu Sena said in a statement that the police should not be in a hurry to take down the flags.

“Saffron is not a symbol of terror that the police is showing haste. It is the right to protect saffron and Hindutva under the law,” the organization said.

two groups of students clashed 20 students were injured in violence, police said on Sunday over alleged non-vegetarian food being served in a mess on the occasion of Ram Navami at JNU’s Kaveri hostel.

However, both the groups claimed that over 60 students from both the sides were injured.

The JNU Students’ Union alleged that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members prevented students from eating non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess and “created a violent atmosphere”.

The right-wing ABVP, however, denied the allegation and claimed that a puja program organized at the hostel on Ram Navami was obstructed by “leftists”.
