History Books’ Devil Too Much on Horse, Need to Rewrite: NCF Review Panelists

Amidst the ongoing debate over the representation of historical facts, National Book Trust President Govind Prasad Sharma has said that history needs to be rewritten in the light of “new facts” emerging. Stating that Indian history books are very much in defeat, he said that our textbooks should focus more on the ‘fighting spirits’ of rulers like Maharana Pratap, who fought against foreign invaders.

Sharma, whoever is part of Formation of a 12-member committee to amend the National Curriculum FrameworkHe made the remarks while replying to a question about the shortcomings of the current CBSE syllabus, The Indian Express reported.

The first meeting of this committee headed by K Kasturirangan was held on 12 October where the members discussed the provision of National Education Policy 2020.

Stressing on the need to rewrite history, Sharma said that so many battles in India are proof that our rulers fought against foreign invaders.

The K Kasturirangan-led committee has been given a three-year term to complete the development of a new NCF that will replace the structure formed in 2005. The committee is entrusted to develop four such frameworks to guide the curriculum of elementary education, school education. , adult education and teacher education.
