Hockey defender Amit Rohidas is paying attention to every aspect of the game

Indian men’s hockey team defender Amit Rohidas was instrumental in India’s silver medal winning achievement at the recently held Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 29-year-old defender believes he still has a lot to improve ahead of a busy season.

“Last year it was an Olympic bronze and this year a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, so it has been a wonderful journey so far. I have been very fortunate to represent my country and win medals at a big level. I think There is still a long way to go and there is a lot to learn and improve ahead of the busy season,” said Amit.

The Indian team lost 0-7 against Australia in the final of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Reflecting on the campaign, Amit said, “We did well in the tournament overall, but I think we could have done better in the final. We made some errors and missed executing our plans, but in the past There is no point in staying. We are focusing on the lessons learned from that match and our overall campaign.”

The Indian team is currently preparing for the upcoming FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League 2022/23 matches against New Zealand and Spain, which is scheduled to begin in Odisha from 28 October.

Speaking on the team’s focus at the camp at SAI, Bengaluru, Amit said that the team is focusing on every aspect of the game.

“After coming back to the camp, we introspected our performance in the Commonwealth Games and started training with a fresh perspective. From defending to finishing, along with our fitness, we are currently focusing on every aspect of the game,” he said.

Amit, who led the team in the last FIH Hockey Pro League season, added, “We are looking forward to a new FIH Hockey Pro League season. This is a new challenge and a new opportunity for us. We will be playing our opening matches at home, so we would like to take advantage of that and get off to a solid start to the new season, which will help us prepare for FIH men’s hockey. World Cup 2023.”

The pool draw for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela is scheduled to take place on 8 September in Bhubaneswar. Expressing his excitement, the player from Sundergarh, Odisha said, “We are really excited about the World Cup pool draw. It also means that the marquee event is not really far away, we have few months to prepare.”

“We have to prepare well and give our best no matter who we face in the World Cup. The focus will be on yourself. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to play the coveted event at home in front of our fans for the second time in a row, and we want to be fully prepared for it,” he concluded.

The Indian men’s hockey team will play its FIH Hockey Pro League 2022/23 matches against New Zealand and Spain from 28 October to 6 November.
