Hockey India approaches Delhi High Court against RTI, seeks its financial records

Opposing the order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) allowing an RTI petition seeking various information about the financial details of Hockey India, including records of fund transfers to bank accounts abroad, the sport’s governing body in the country challenged on Wednesday Dec. Order of 13 CIC before Delhi High Court.

Hearing the petition, Justice Rekha Palli sought certain documents to be relied upon by the defendants in the case. The hearing will continue on Thursday as well.

The petition filed by the apex hockey body said that Subhash Agarwal sought information through RTI with respect to salary and addresses of Hockey India employees, monthly rent details of the premises taken on lease, signatures of bank accounts, records relating to Was. For information on transfer of funds to bank accounts abroad and its cash withdrawal by Hockey India.

The petition states that the CIC suffers from “utterly non-application of mind”, as much as it is wholly arbitrary, contrary to statute, and contrary to the law laid down by this court and its own decisions.

The petition further states: “There is no clear public interest which can override the exemption of the information sought. It is pertinent to mention here also that the annual accounts of the petitioner have already been published on its website and that of the petitioner Duly audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

“The aggregate accounts of the petitioner, including expenditure, income, cash flow etc., all form part of the accounts of the petitioner which are already available to the public on Hockey India website www.hockeyindia.org and may be available to RTI activists. Is.”

It states that the disclosure has already been made by the CPIO of the respondent, subject to disclosure under the Right to Information Act.

“There is no overriding public interest, which warrants the disclosure of information, which would otherwise be required under sections 8(1)(d), 8(1)(e) and 8(1)(j) from disclosure under the RTI Act.” exempted from the Act,” the petition said.
