Hockey teams’ Olympic performance is a tribute to Dhyan Chand: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik

Greeting everyone on the occasion of National Sports Day, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the performance of Indian hockey teams in the Olympics is a true tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. In a video message, Patnaik said, “This time we celebrate this day with full joy, splendor and splendor. The performance of Indian hockey teams in Olympics is a true tribute to the great hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.”

On this day, the state government has given Biju Patnaik awards for sports and bravery.

“Hockey has a special place for sports in Odisha. I am glad that Hockey Coach Kalu Charan Choudhary has been given the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Performance Award has been given to Amit Rohidas. Congratulations to you both. It is a tribute to the players and coaches of Odisha, who have contributed to the development of hockey in the state.”

Over the past few weeks, Odisha’s model of the game has been garnering praise across the country. He said that the entire nation loves Odisha for supporting the national hockey teams which have created history in the Tokyo Olympics.

“Our partnership and model of High Performance Centers has garnered national attention. It is an endorsement of our vision, investment and efforts in sport.”

Indian hockey defender from Odisha, Amit Rohidas, who earned his 100 cap at the Tokyo Olympics, was awarded the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for his outstanding performance in sports and games. Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera presented a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh here on Sunday.

Odisha’s hockey coach Kalu Charan Choudhary has received the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for Lifetime Achievement in the promotion of sports and games. He received a citation and a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.

Similarly, the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for Excellence in Coaching went to Shiba Prasad Das, the badminton coach for Para players. He received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

Trailokyanath Parida, Police ASI, Cuttack received this year’s Biju Patnaik Gallantry Award. He received a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a silver medal and a citation.
