  • Verification is done when a foreign national is appointed as the CEO of an Indian company

Officials said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will verify the background of Air India’s newly-appointed CEO Ilkar I. Officials said this is the routine process when a foreign national is appointed as the CEO of an Indian company.

Turkish citizen IC was recently appointed as the CEO and MD of Air India.

Officials said the process would be initiated once the MHA receives an official communication on the IC from the Tata Group or the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which is a nodal ministry.

The Union Home Ministry can take help from Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in background verification of IC, who was the CEO of Turkish Airlines from 2015 to 2021.

The Tata group bought the debt-ridden state-run Air India from the central government by bidding for Rs 18,000 crore in an auction and took full control of Air India on January 27.
