Home Ministry will take ‘big, tough’ decisions on security lapse during PM Modi’s Punjab visit: Anurag Thakur

Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is gathering information about security lapses during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab.

Citing security lapses, Union Minister Anurag Thakur Said that the MHA is looking into the matter, and added that “big and tough decisions” will be taken in this regard.

“The Home Ministry has also spoken of taking action. Whatever steps will be taken after gathering the information… Big and tough decisions will be taken by it,” he told reporters.

Anurag Thakur made this statement during a press conference in New Delhi, where he announced the decisions taken during the recent cabinet meeting.

The minister also said that several petitioners have already approached the Supreme Court regarding security lapses during PM Modi’s visit to Ferozepur.

The MHA, in a press statement on Wednesday, said that PM Narendra Modi “arrived at Bathinda, from where he was supposed to visit the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala. Due to rain and poor visibility, the Prime Minister waited for about 20 minutes. The weather would clear up. “

“When the weather did not improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Martyrs Memorial by road, which would take more than two hours. He would travel by road after necessary confirmation of the necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police. Proceed to do.” MHA said.

The statement further said, “About 30 kms from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the Prime Minister’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that some protesters had blocked the road. The Prime Minister was stuck on a flyover. 15 -20 minutes. It was a big lapse in the security of the Prime Minister.”

In response to concerns expressed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Punjab government has constituted a committee headed by a retired High Court judge to probe the security lapse. In this regard, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi has to submit a report in three days.
