Honeywell announces new ethanol-to-jet fuel technology

New Delhi Honeywell on Tuesday announced a new ethanol-to-jet fuel (ETJ) processing technology. The technology allows producers to convert corn-based, cellulosic, or sugar-based ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

“Depending on the type of ethanol feedstock, jet fuel produced from the ETJ process can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% on an overall life cycle basis compared to petroleum-based jet fuels,” the company said in a statement. ”

The technology utilized high-performance catalytic and heat management capabilities to maximize production efficiency, resulting in a cost-effective, low-carbon intensity aviation fuel.

“Honeywell pioneers SAF production with its ecofinishing technology, and our new ethanol-to-jet fuel process is in line with the global aviation sector’s goal of reducing GHG emissions and meeting SAF production goals with an abundant feedstock such as ethanol. is based on that core innovation to support the effort.” Barry Glickman, Vice President and General Manager, Honeywell Sustainable Technology Solutions.

The SAF plants that will use the technology can be modularized away from site to enable faster, less labor-intensive installation. “Petroleum refiners and transportation fuel producers can also benefit from the ETJ design, which is designed to enable the conversion of existing or inactive facilities into SAF production plants to meet growing market demand,” the company said. SAF can potentially make maximum use of existing sites for production. ,
