Hot, humid and relentless: Rain deficient in Haryana in July tops the city | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: The city has received mostly sporadic rainfall for the past eight days, with a 47% deficit this month, while it has received only 54.6 mm. This makes it the most rain deficient district in the state at present.
The city generally receives 102.2 mm of rain between July 1 and 17. The city would expect to cover the shortfall to an extent in the next four days. IMD Light to moderate rain forecast which may continue till July 22.
“As the Monsoon trough is moving northwards, the rain activity is likely to increase Haryana During 19-22 July. Light to moderate rain is likely over many cities, while heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places over northern and eastern parts of Haryana on Wednesday.
“There is a possibility of thunder and lightning at isolated places with this spell. As of now, there is less chance of heavy rain in Gurgaon, but this time it is likely to cover more area.” Manmohan Singhthe director, IMD Chandigarh,
So far, the city has received moderate rain on only three occasions, 17.7 mm of rain on June 18, 21 mm on June 31 and 20 mm on July 17, while no heavy rain has been recorded.
According to the IMD classification, light rain occurs when a city receives between 2.5 mm and 7.5 mm of rain in a day, moderate rainfall between 7.6 mm and 35.5 mm and heavy rainfall between 64.5 mm and 124.4 mm.
The maximum temperature on Monday rose to 38.5 degrees Celsius from Sunday’s 37.8 degrees Celsius. It was four degrees above the season’s normal. The city’s meteorological station did not record minimum temperature. The relative humidity remained high at 74 per cent. The Air Quality Index (AQI) slipped into the moderate category with the overall reading at 105 compared to 70 the previous day.
