Bangalore:

E-commerce companies, especially their delivery boys, had a tough time supplying products to customers when parts of Bengaluru were in a deluge due to two days of heavy rain in parts of the city.

The submerged areas like Sarjapura, Bellandur, Varthur, Whitefield and parts of the Outer Ring Road had become inaccessible due to water-logging.

In view of the flood situation, e-commerce companies had suspended their services for some time.

An executive of a leading e-commerce company told Press Trust of India that they had to suspend services at some places as it was not possible for anyone to reach there.

“We are waiting for some time so that things can sort out. Things seem to be improving at some places now,” the executive said.

Meanwhile, an Amazon spokesperson said, “The safety of our partners is our top priority. We are evaluating the situation, and ensuring that our partners do not venture into highly waterlogged areas.”

“In cases where customer deliveries have been affected, we have actively notified them,” the statement said.

An executive told the Press Trust of India that food delivery company Swiggy had also banned the delivery of products in the submerged areas.

It told its customers in flood-affected places that they would not be able to reach it and apologized for the same.

“The situation seems to be improving now. Many areas are becoming dry now and our delivery partners are able to reach there,” the executive said.

Meanwhile, the city’s civic agency, the Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has launched a demolition drive, breaking encroachments on lakes and storm water drains that are obstructing the smooth flow of rainwater.
