How expensive is medical education in India?

Average course fee for MBBS studies in government colleges India Around Rs.8,000 to Rs.35,000 per annum. Many Indian students go to countries like Russia, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Nepal, Spain and Germany for medical studies. Fees of these countries are half as compared to India. If the fee for medical education in any private college in India is 60 to 70 lakh rupees, then in these countries it is only 30 to 35 lakh rupees.

In 2010, the Lancet Commission found that the cost of medical education has increased worldwide. In India, this expenditure has doubled, while medical education fees in China have tripled, a daily reported.

Moreover, NEET is also one of the toughest exams to crack. “Report of the High Level Committee to Study the Impact of NEET on Medical Admission in Tamil Nadu” The Justice AK Rajan committee observed that the students who have enrolled in MBBS courses through NEET performed worse than the students enrolled on the basis of class 12 marks. Meanwhile, there are scholarship programs to help students in their dream of becoming doctors. The Government of West Bengal offers Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship for minorities with a family income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh. Other Scholarships include HDFC Bank Educational Crisis Scholarship, Nationwide education And scholarship exams, Vahani scholarships, Dr Abdul Kalam scholarships for medical students, etc., which help students from disadvantaged backgrounds to study further.
