Hair fall causes include ‘stress, hormonal imbalance, extra hot baths, and regular heat treatments’, but our diet is the key culprit

Not many would disagree that hair fall is a problem that has left no one untouched. Every person has to face the problem of hair fall sometime in their life. This is often due to pollution, irregular lifestyle, and excessive use of chemicals and in-salon treatments. We go through a lot to keep our hair healthy. From choosing the right shampoo to shine serum and hot oil massage to spa therapy, we are sure you must have tried it all. However, have you ever considered that just like your body, your hair also needs a proper diet? Nutritionist Meenakshi said that a healthy, balanced diet can greatly affect the quality of our hair.

The nutritionist said, “If you are consuming a diet that is deficient in nutrients, especially iron, zinc, omega etc., it can result in hair loss.” She mentions that although there are other causes of hair loss, such as “stress, hormonal imbalance, excess hot showers, and regular heat treatments,” our diet is the key culprit.

Here is a list of foods that play an important role in making our hair strong and healthy, as recommended by nutritionists-

  1. fish
Fish is an excellent protein-rich food that helps reduce hair loss because it is high in beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. You can choose to eat salmon or mackerel according to your taste.
  2. Jamun
Berries are full of healthy elements and vitamins that can promote hair growth. It contains vitamin C, which has powerful antioxidant properties. Antioxidants may help protect hair follicles from damage caused by dangerous molecules known as free radicals.
  3. nuts and seeds
Nuts are delicious and packed with nutrients that are important for healthy hair growth. They offer a wide range of B vitamins, zinc and important fatty acids. According to nutritionists, these nutrients have been linked to healthy hair. On the other hand, seeds have a lot of nutrients and fewer calories. These include selenium, zinc and vitamin E. Omega-3 fatty acids are also present in many seeds such as flax seeds and chia seeds.
  4. eggs
Our body should provide adequate amount of protein to our hair so that hair can get complete nutrition. Eggs are a rich source of protein. It also contains biotin, which is known to be good for hair growth.
  5. spinach
Another nutrient mentioned by Meenakshi is iron. Spinach is rich in iron, which is essential for healthy hair growth. Iron aids in the growth and repair of tissues by helping red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body to support metabolism. In addition, she suggests adding collagen-rich foods and dairy products to our diet to address hair concerns.
