Despite suffering from vision loss and undergoing surgery for a brain tumour four times, Satish Kumar didn’t give up on his dream of clearing the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam.
According to Local 18, the financial conditions of his family were also unfavourable. Satish suffered difficulties in his preparation. What took Satish ahead was his sheer spirit and determination, with which he managed to crack the SSC CGL examination in 2022. Let’s take a look at how he managed to accomplish the remarkable feat of clearing the SSC CGL exam despite these grave difficulties.
Satish hails from the Chandanpur village, located in the Surajgarha subdivision of the Lakhisarai district, Bihar. In an interview, he said that he was very passionate about studies since childhood and was leading a normal life. His life, however, took a drastic turn in September 2019 when his health started to deteriorate. Satish said that he lost the vision in his eyes due to the adverse impact of the illness. Not only the blindness, Satish also faced the grave medical condition of a brain tumour. He had to suffer four surgeries on his brain for the removal of the tumour. He didn’t lose his courage despite these setbacks and kept preparing for the SSC CGL examination. Finally, his relentless efforts bore fruit, and he passed the examination with flying colours.
When asked about how he prepared for the examination, Satish said, “Tayari humne Youtube ke madhyam se kiya. Meri maa file search kar ke deti hain. Aur main padh leta tha. (I prepared for the exam with the help of YouTube. My mother searched for the study materials and I studied them”). Satish said that he also refers to YouTube in case of any confusion on the topic. “Kisi bhi student ke paas yadi junoon rahega to voh kuch bhi kar gujrega. (If a student has passion, then he can accomplish anything), said Satish. He gave the example of Samyak Jain from Haryana, who got 7th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) despite suffering from 100 percent blindness.
