Shubman Gill shares his experience when opening with the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma and speaks on how their different approaches complement the two.

With the highly anticipated rematch between India vs Pakistan set to take place tomorrow, Shubman Gill sat with the media for a press conference.

He spoke about his partnership with fellow opening batter and skipper of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma. Gill spoke on his experience when opening the innings with the skipper, he said, “He likes to take on the bowlers more aerially and I am someone who likes to play along the ground in the powerplay and I think that combination works out quite well for us.”

The duo have scored over 800 runs in their partnerships in 10 matches where they have opened the innings together and will likely be the opening pair for the World Cup as well.

Gill also commented on the ways both of them tackle different kinds of situations which is beneficial for their partnership. He added, ” Since we both are different in how we go about our shots and how we go about playing different situations, I think it makes it difficult for the bowlers to contain us.”

Both the openers will be expected to give a better show to the fans after the top order crumbled in the last encounter against Pakistan thanks to the brilliance of Shaheen Afridi who dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Haris Rauf also pitched in to support the bowling unit when Shaheen was not in the attack and cleared the middle order with relative ease.

But it is thanks to the brilliance and resilience shown by the likes of Ishan Kishan and the vice-captain, Hardik Pandya that India was even able to register a total of 266 making it a competitive total for them to bowl against.

Fortune, however, favoured the Indians as the weather came into play and washed out the game meaning the second innings never took place and both teams walked away with a point each.

India got their chance to bowl after winning the toss against Nepal in their second fixture in the group stages and were given a target of 230 which was further reduced to 145 due to the Duckworth-Lewis rule coming into play. The opening duo of Gill and Rohit managed to chase down the total in within the revised over-limit of 23 overs as both managed to pick up half-centuries during their chase.
