Howrah: Blood-soaked bodies of three members of a family – a businessman, his wife and daughter – were found inside a first-floor flat liluah In Howrah on Saturday evening. Preliminary investigations indicate a slowdown in business and a financial crisis prompting the businessman to kill his family and then commit suicide.
On Saturday afternoon, locals noticed foul smell from the apartment in Belgachia, Liluah. He called the businessman, Abhijeet Das, but the phone went unanswered. They informed the police, who broke open the door to find the bodies.
The body of Abhijeet (47) was hanging from the ceiling, while that of his wife debjani (42) was wrapped in a sheet in the next room. The blood-soaked body of his daughter Samarjani
(13) was lying on the floor.
“The door of the house was locked from inside. When the police broke the door, the mutilated bodies were found there. Apparently, Abhijeet killed his wife and daughter with a hammer and later hanged himself. However, we are not ruling out any other possibility,” said Anupam Singh DC (North) Howrah City Police.
Hammers were found near the body but no suicide note was found. Police said Das’s mother, who has a separate flat on the ground floor, was in his village.
Das’s father-in-law Mrityunjay friend “I was told that they were going on leave. Three of them traveled frequently. They were to return on Monday,” he said.
Neighbors said Das had an industrial gas supply unit in Howrah.
