Foldable smartphones have already arrived, and soon we may have more laptops with foldable displays. HP is the latest to show its interest in the technology, and as per this week’s report, the company is working on a 17-inch model that packs a foldable screen. The report states that HP is relying on LG for 4K OLED displays and expects the product to roll out later this year or early 2023.
HP will join the foldable laptop market like Asus. The Taiwanese brand launched its ZenBook 17 Fold OLED model, and HP is likely to adopt the same reference design for its own foldable notebook.

However, as reported by The Elec, HP may opt for a 16:9 aspect ratio 4K display that offers 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution. And when you fold the notebook, its aspect ratio reduces to 11-inches by its 4.3 screen. LG has been in the foldable business for a while, but our biggest concerns with the display are its durability and how effectively it works.
Unlike the foldable smartphone segment, laptops with foldable screens are yet to hit the market. Lenovo introduced its ThinkPad X1 Fold with some promise, but its overall value and performance didn’t hold up in the market.
HP will have seen the impact of this, and will also monitor how Asus performs with its product.

And to keep things practical, the report states that HP is ordering just 10,000 units of the display panel from LG, allowing the company to plan its production based on the market response.
Technology is going to be expensive for a few years until major brands bring their products and bring them at a more accessible price to the consumer.
But first, we’ll see whether HP has ambitions with its product in 2022 or push it forward to next year.
