Huge growth in vehicle sales during Navratri, around 5.4 lakh units sold: FADA

Navratri is one of the auspicious festivals celebrated in India and buying a vehicle during those days is nothing less than an icing on the cake. Having said this, the latest report by Federation of Automobile Dealers Association shows that vehicle retail sales in the country grew by 57 per cent during the Navratri festival this year, with a record sales of around 5.4 lakh units. FADA said in a statement that the total vehicle retail sales between 26 September and 5 October 2022 stood at 5,39,227 units as against 3,42,459 units sold during Navratri last year. The sales recorded this year were also a record, bettering the previous best of 4,66,128 units in Navratri of 2019.

FADA President Manish Raj Singhania said that Navratri sales show that customers have returned to showrooms after a gap of three years. As per FADA data, the retail sales of two-wheelers in this year’s Navratri stood at 3,69,020 units as against 2,42,213 units during the festive period last year, showing a growth of 52.35 per cent. Two-wheeler sales grew by 3.7 percent as compared to 3,55,851 units seen in Navratri of pre-Covid year 2019.

“The two-wheeler category, which was showing consistent weakness as compared to the pre-covid months, also registered a single digit growth,” Singhania said. FADA said passenger vehicle sales during this year’s Navratri stood at 1,10,521 units as against 64,850 units last year, a growth of 70.43 percent.

Similarly, commercial vehicle retail also grew 48.25 per cent to 22,437 units from 15,135 units sold in Navratri last year. Growth was also witnessed in the three-wheeler category, which registered sales of 19,809 units in Navratri this year as compared to 9,203 units last year. Tractor sales also grew by 57.66 per cent to 17,440 units from 11,062 units sold in Navratri 2021.

“We now expect this trend to continue till Diwali so that apart from passenger vehicle dealers who will witness a decade high during this festival, two wheeler dealers are also having a good season and hence they have to clear their stock. Help comes, in anticipation of a good celebration that they have created,” Singhania said.
