HUL appoints Rohit Jawa as new chief to take charge from June 27

Fast-growing consumer goods major HUL on Friday announced the appointment of Rohit Jawa as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Sanjiv Mehta, who will retire from the company after leading it for a decade.

Rohit Jawa, currently Unilever’s Head of Transformation, will assume the leadership role for a period of five consecutive years from June 27, 2023, the company said in a statement.

It added, “The appointment of Rohit Jawa as whole-time director and MD & CEO will be subject to the approval of the shareholders and other statutory approvals as applicable.”

Rohit Jawa will join the HUL board as a whole-time director with effect from April 1, 2023.

Apart from the Indian market, he will also hold the position of President of Unilever South Asia.

He will join the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE) with effect from April 1, 2023. After a transformative stint of 10 years at the helm of HUL, Sanjiv Mehta will be retiring from the company.

Rohit Jawa is currently Unilever’s Head of Transformation in London, where from January 2022, he has successfully completed Unilever’s end-to-end transformation once a decade.

He started his career with HUL in 1988 as a Management Trainee and has a proven track record of consistent business results across India, South East Asia and North Asia.

As EVP of North Asia and President of Unilever China, he led a significant transformation of Unilever China into a competitive, profitable and consistent business, which is now Unilever’s third largest business, the statement said.

In addition, as President of Unilever Philippines, he led the business to become one of Unilever’s top 10 markets globally. Rohit’s ability to integrate the strengths of traditional markets with digital technologies and future-friendly business models, positions him well to lead HUL into its next growth phase.
