‘Humanity above politics’: PM Modi pitches for diplomacy to resolve Ukraine dispute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to resolve the Ukraine dispute as the current situation is an issue of humanity and human values, not politics or economy. He made this comment while addressing G7 summit in Hiroshima,

He said all countries must respect the UN Charter, international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and called for a united voice against unilateral attempts to change the status quo, according to news agency PTI.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came against the backdrop of the lingering border row with China in eastern Ladakh and Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. H invoked the Buddha and said that there is no problem in the modern age whose solution cannot be found in his teachings.

He also mentioned their conversation on Saturday Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,

“Today we heard from President Zelensky. I met him yesterday as well. I do not consider the current situation an issue of politics or economy. I believe it is an issue of humanity, an issue of human values,” PM Modi said .

“We have said from the beginning that dialogue and diplomacy is the only way out. And we will do whatever is possible to resolve this situation, whatever can be done from India,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that India has always been of the opinion that any tension and any dispute should be resolved through peaceful means through dialogue.
