Hyderabad gears up for a grand new edition of Qadir Ali Beg Theater Festival

Theater groups have become active again in the city. The line-up of this year’s Qadir Ali Baig Theater Festival pays tribute to the late Kadir Ali Baig, a theater legend from Hyderabad.

In its 17th edition, this year’s theater festival will be held from November 16 to 20. dramas in Hindi, Telugu and English/Hindi based on the works of eminent writers Saadat Hasan Manto, Sagar Sarhadi and Satish Alekar; Workshops and panel discussions on aspects of theater will be presented.

The plays on this festival coincide with 75 years of India’s independence. There is a line-up on November 18 and 19 that includes the Hindi drama ‘With Love, Aap Ki Saiara’, written, directed and starring Juhi Babbar Soni; Mahaniravanam, a Telugu black comedy directed by Sheikh John Bashir and translated and adapted from a Marathi play by Satish Alekar; Hindi play ‘Toba Tek Singh’ based on the story of Saadat Hasan Manto, adapted for theater by Rajesh Kumar and directed by Alok Chakraborty.

The festival will conclude on November 20 with two Hindi plays; ‘Kamaladevi’ written by Vaidehi, directed by and starring Bhagirathi Bai and Sagar Sarhadi’s satire ‘Bhuke Bhajan Na Hoye Gopal’ starring Rakesh Bedi and Masood Akhtar in the cast. All the plays will be staged at Radisson Blu Plaza in Banjara Hills.
