HYDERABAD: A man who hacked the database server of a payment gateway platform and allegedly duped Rs 52.9 lakh was arrested on Wednesday.

The commissioner said that the accused developed a method in which he identified vulnerabilities in the payment gateway’s software and used these gaps to hack into his main server and divert money.
On a complaint by an employee of a software firm offering payment gateway platform that his account was hacked on March 15, and Rs 52.9 lakh was transferred to other accounts, cyber crime police Registered a case and started investigation and caught the hacker.
In this particular case, the accused entered the payment gateway as a merchant using a fake user ID and used open source software tools to evaluate the vulnerabilities of the payment gateway and obtained the user ID. super admin Regarding the payment gateway, the police said while explaining the modus operandi (MO) of the accused.
By using the software they gained access to the main database server using vulnerabilities present in the payment gateway software. After logging into the data server, he transferred Rs 52.9 lakh from the payment gateway’s nodal account to three virtual bank accounts, police said.
He said that with this amount he bought bitcoins and later transferred these bitcoins to another crypto account and from there he sold bitcoins and redeemed the amount.
Police said that during further investigation, it was found that earlier also he had allegedly diverted Rs 80 lakh to two other payment gateways using the same MO.
Police recovered Rs 17.2 lakh from the hacker’s possession and Rs 14 lakh in his bank account. Police said three laptops and 12 mobile phones, one tab, 33 credit/debit cards and some bank documents have also been recovered from the accused.
