Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro Review: What’s so special about this Rs 38,999 body massager?

If you’ve been following top athletes and sportsmen on Instagram, it’s hard to miss a device from the Hyperice Percussion Massage Gun. The company recently launched its most premium, Hypersys HyperVolt 2 Pro after introducing HyperVolt 2 in India, though the latter is said to be more ergonomically designed. Both new-generation Hypervolt percussion massage guns have bullet-shaped handles for better grip, and the Pro model offers five percussion speed levels. It also has a neat power switch under the handle. As expected, the HyperVolt 2 Pro is more expensive at Rs 35,999 (MRP Rs 38,999), while the HyperVolt 2 is currently available for Rs 27,999 (MRP Rs 30,999). There is also an older generation Hypervolt Go variant that costs Rs 16,999.

As mentioned, we get a bump of five speeds instead of three, but does that justify its higher cost? Here’s our breakdown.

What you should remember about percussion massage guns: Before we proceed with the review, it is equally important to remember the purpose of percussion massage guns – specifically the Hyperice Hypervolt product. Simply put, percussion massage guns like the Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro aim to reduce muscle aches, tension, and pain with a vibration mechanism. They are ideal for physicians and professional/amateur athletes because these devices help muscles heal, but are not intended to treat joint conditions.

Hyperis products are specifically designed to help fitness enthusiasts before and after a workout, and the Hyperis app can also help you track your fitness goals. If you are planning to buy any electronic massager product for the treatment of long term ailments, it is best to consult a physiotherapist or doctor.

design:Hypersys Hypervolt 2 Pro and Hypervolt 2 both come with similar packaging which definitely looks and feels premium. I’m also happy with Hyperice for using so little plastic to ship the product.

However, it is disappointing that the company is not providing a carry case for the massage gun even with this premium price tag. There’s also no carry case for the charger, but we do find a small pouch inside the box for five different attachments — fork, ball, cushion, flat, and bullet. Each of these attachments serves its own individual purpose, and you’ll find more information on the Hyperice app. The same five attachments are available with the Hyperis HyperVolt 2.

The Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro comes in a matte black finish, and the pill-shaped handle gets the power switch. The body has a premium plastic build, and the coating does a decent job of removing fingerprint smudges. The handle includes an LED ring on the bottom that changes color depending on the charging levels.

It’s more convenient to use the power switch on the Pro model rather than the push-button one on the Hyperis HyperVolt 2. Most notably, the Hyperis HyperVolt 2 Pro now includes a rotating ring to manage percussion speed. This ring is oddly almost therapeutic, and even elderly customers will find it easy to operate.

In terms of weight distribution, at 1.1kg, the Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro is heavier than the Hyperis Hypervolt 2, though it’s easier to use for the most parts. If you’re trying to reach back muscles, a massage gun can feel overwhelming. Eventually, anyone can get used to the weights and find ways to reach difficult areas.

performanceUsers can use Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro in two ways. If you’re already familiar with the routine, you can use a percussion gun manually. Users can also watch many tutorials on YouTube, although it is advised to consult a physiotherapist first to get the best combination of workouts.

Fortunately, I do not suffer from any serious ailments, although I have consulted a physician in the past to strengthen my quad muscles. Users can also connect the HyperVolt 2 Pro to the Hypersys mobile app via Bluetooth to access a variety of workouts. I used the device with an Android smartphone (Motorola Edge 30) and an iPhone 12, and there was no lag in connectivity.

The Hyperice app is pretty straightforward, and includes videos from experts and pre-set modes for particular muscle areas. If you’re using a device with the app, the percussion speed is automatically adjusted. I want the app to provide exclusive videos or access to experts, especially for customers getting this expensive Pro model.

If you’re adjusting bump levels manually on the HyperVolt 2 Pro, you can choose between five speeds. It has a more powerful 90W high-torque motor that delivers a base bump level of 1,800 ppm (bumps per minute). The second level is rated at 2,000 ppm, which is also the base level on the Hypervolt 2. The second and third percussion levels are rated at 2,200 ppm and 2,400 ppm, while the top tempo remains unchanged at 2,700 ppm. Therefore, the Hypervolt 2 Pro is more functional for treating areas that may not require high percussion levels, such as the muscles around the neck. Levels two and three percussion levels can be useful for a physiotherapist who needs a greater level of adaptation.

Hyperis continues to use a high quality motor on the Hypervolt 2 Pro that remains stable and efficient. This essentially means that users will feel no shock even when the massage gun is at top speed. However, the top three percussion remain loud, which can scare off customers who are trying the device for the first time.

Battery backup remains unchanged at three hours – as does the HyperVolt 2 provided. This means that users can use the device for five days on a single charge with 30 minutes of daily workouts.

Decision: The HyperVolt 2 Pro is definitely more feature-packed, even though it looks very similar to the HyperSys HyperVolt 2 in terms of design. But the five levels of percussion speed on the Pro model will sing along to a lot of athletes who want more control when looking for the perfect massage gun.

Amateur athletes or regular customers will likely use the app more often, which provides Hypervolt 2 Pro and Hypervolt 2 customers with a similar set of workouts. In that case, Hypervolt 2 is a better option.

However, athletes who take their fitness goals seriously and are on the hunt for the most premium massage gun at the moment, won’t be disappointed with the Hyperis Hypervolt 2 Pro.
