Korean carmaker Hyundai conceptualized the ‘Great India Drive’ half a decade ago to capture the unique stories across India of the people and places that played a strong role in India’s journey of progress. The 5th Chapter of DRIVE was recently flagged off from the company’s new Corporate Headquarters in Gurugram. This chapter will focus on some of the key aspects of today’s era – Intelligent Technology, Sustainability and Innovation. These will focus on health care, community development, road safety, education and the environment.

All the themes mentioned above resonate with the recently launched Hyundai Corporate Campaign – Beyond Mobility. While the idea is to provide consumers with a more technological experience through the cars made by the brand, it also aims to do so in a way that does not harm the environment. Coming to intelligent technology, Hyundai offers advanced connected solutions with BlueLink available on 8 models in India, with up to 60+ connected features on some models. The demand for such cars is only going to increase with more customers than ever before.

The latest announcement that the brand will launch 6 new electric cars in India in the next 7 years adds to the reason. It only helps that 3 of these cars will be built on the company’s dedicated e-GMP platform which ensures more cabin space as well as a longer driving range. The brand has also announced that it aims to go carbon neutral by 2045 and a lot of electric offerings will surely go a long way in achieving that goal.

Hyundai is ramping up its eco-friendly efforts in manufacturing, networking and even for the greater good of the society. In line with the company’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, Hyundai Motor India Foundation has also initiated programs focused on community development and sustainability. At the flag-off ceremony of Great India Drive 5.0, Hyundai Motor India also shared a MoU with the Gurugram city administration for a pond restoration project. The company will develop 3 ponds in the city, which will have a capacity to recharge 93 million liters of groundwater annually.

Hyundai’s Chennai plant has 89 per cent dependence on renewable forms of energy.

The company’s manufacturing facility in Chennai is almost self-sufficient in terms of water dependence. 100% rain water harvesting is practiced here with 6 ponds having total water storage capacity of 3.35 lakh kilo liters. The brand is targeting zero external water dependency by 2025. In addition, 89% of the plant’s dependence is on renewable forms of energy. Even dealer network initiatives such as dry wash programme, use of LED lights and use of renewable energy are playing their part in achieving sustainability goals.

At the new corporate headquarters in Gurugram, spread over an area of ​​over 28,000 square metres, the brand has practiced some commendable environmental practices. The building features a unique 400 square meter green wall with live plants and 50 kW of solar roof top panels harnessing renewable energy. There are also 14 EV charging units installed out of which 3 are DC fast charging and 11 are AC normal charging.

The brand has also announced the launch of a unique Town Hall project with the road safety campaign message of ‘Dhyana Do’, which emphasizes on road safety and self-health of public/private transport drivers. According to Hyundai, the initiative will help create more opportunities for people and communities and will be part of the shift towards a more sustainable way. The company says it is working in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment to achieving zero carbon neutrality by 2070 and aims to play a positive role in that.
