Built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP), the IONIQ 5 is likely to feature an innovative exterior and interior design. Inside the cabin, the all-electric CUV will be equipped with eco-friendly materials at multiple touchpoints. The company says that e-GMP has been developed on 4 key pillars-
Modularity – A platform that can facilitate multiple body types, featuring a modular battery system and creating greater synergy with BEV component sharing.
Reliability – Featuring a low center of gravity, use of ultra high strength steel and 8-point battery mounting, the e-GMP will pave the way for highly reliable BEVs of the future.
Usability – Featuring a flat floor and flexible seating layout as well as an innovative interior space that offers sliding console and sliding second row seats, the e-GMP will usher in a new dimension of usability.
Performance – With bigger battery capacity, better handling and the ability to achieve a top speed of 260 km/h, e-GMP will usher in a new era of fun-to-drive electric vehicles.
As the name suggests, IONIQ is a combination of “ion” and “unique” which was announced as a long-term research and development project focusing on sustainable mobility.
