Hyundai unveils new N sports car ahead of July 15 launch

Hyundai has shared a pair of teasers showcasing the new model of its N Performance brand. While one teaser shows a blurry model zipping straight down the seat, the other shows a covered sports car. While Hyundai hasn’t revealed any details on the model yet, the mystery sports car could be part of the company’s current joint project with Rimake to develop an electric sports car. While the two companies ended most joint projects with Hyundai in talks to end their collaboration with the electric supercar maker, the joint electric sports car program is still making it to production. With 2023 said to be the tentative date for its debut, the covered sportscar could be a concept for the upcoming model.

The teaser reveals that the angled cover up along with the long low set bonnet suggests a prominent splitter on the front bumper. Other notable details include a flat roof and raked rear windscreen with a prominent spoiler on the boot lid.

Hyundai is currently working on a hot variant of the Ioniq 5 which is likely to be previewed in this teaser.

The model is likely to be fully electric as Hyundai is saying that the model will envision “the future of the N with legacy”. A second post on Hyundai’s Facebook page in its home market said they would announce details of the “next generation high-performance car”.

Hyundai is also working on a high-performance derivative of its Ioniq 5 EV, which could be a blurry model from the second teaser. The company is testing preproduction prototypes on international roads, which is likely to use the same powertrain as the production car Kia EV6 GT.

A third teaser by the company shows what looks like the back of the recently revealed Ioniq 6 electric streamliner, featuring Pixel Design full-width tail-lamps and a prominent rear spoiler. The car is covered in a cloud of tire smoke, suggesting that a lot of work could be done on the Ioniq 6 N as well.

Since its inception, Hyundai has introduced a range of performance models under its N brand across the world, from hot N-line variants to full blown N models like the i20 N, Kona N and Elantra N.
