‘I am laughing at all these tweets, messages’: ‘Confident’ Arshdeep Singh reacts to social media trolling

Arshdeep Singh is currently the center of all the discussions revolving around Indian cricket. On Sunday, when Rohit Sharma & Co faced off against arch-rivals Pakistan, the 23-year-old was involved in an incident that brought him under the radar of trolls. Pakistan, chasing their 182-run target, needed 31 runs from the last 15 balls when the youngster gave life to Asif Ali off Ravi Bishnoi. The men in green took advantage of the opportunity in the next 13 deliveries, taking the game out of India’s grip.

Had Arshdeep had taken the catch, it would have been India’s third consecutive win. But losing is another part of the game but trollers never understand it. The left-hander Tej was brutally abused and portrayed as the villain of the match. Some notorious elements also sabotaged his Wikipedia page, which was eventually restored.

The whole episode disappointed Arshdeep’s parents as well. Darshan Singh and Baljit Kaur have reached Dubai to see their son playing for the country. In addition, they saw him live in a stadium for the first time.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Darshan said, “As a parent, it feels really bad. He is only 23 years old. I don’t want to say much about trolls. You can’t shut everyone’s mouth. There is no game without fans. There are some who stand by you no matter what, and there are some who cannot digest a single loss. But in the end, only one team can win.”

Before going back to Chandigarh, Darshan and Baljeet talked to their son. According to him, Arshdeep has taken this incident as a lesson that can motivate him for the challenges to come.

“His exact words were, ‘I am laughing at all these tweets and messages. I am only going to take the positivity out of it. This incident has given me more confidence’, said the father of the Indian cricketer.

Arshdeep’s mother Baljeet said, “Arshdeep told us that the entire Indian team is supporting him.”

Amidst the fallout, Arshdeep’s parents are determined to return to the UAE if India Makes it to the finals.

“If India qualifies for the final, we will be in Dubai. If India wins the Asia Cup, we want to be there. Arshdeep told us that he is looking forward to contribute to India’s win,” said Darshan.
