Indian opener Rohit Sharma felt his best performance in Test cricket was yet to come after a stellar tour of England, which he described as “good” for himself. Sharma was the highest run-scorer for India in Tests against England, scoring 368 runs in eight innings at an average of 52.57, including a century and two half-centuries. Sharma’s 127 in the second innings of the Fourth Test at the Oval was his first Test century in overseas conditions.

“The England tour was good for me, based on where I stood in Test cricket before that. But I wouldn’t say it was my best. I know my best is yet to come in Test cricket. I made good use of my time 15-20 days after the World Test Championship final in Southampton. While playing in England, I understood the small adjustments and techniques that were required. I am really happy with the way I batted on that tour. I will now try to build on that confidence and build on that success in Test cricket,” Sharma said on Monday during a virtual press conference organized by Adidas to mark the launch of its campaign.

The 34-year-old believes the series is over for him and admitted that there is no clarity on the fifth Test in Manchester, which was canceled due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp .

“It was a great tour for me and for the team personally. I don’t know what happened with the last Test match, will we play it as a one-sided Test or will the series be decided as it is. We don’t have any clarity on this yet. But in my view, we have won the series 2-1. That’s how I would like to see it.”

Sharma is currently leading Mumbai Indians in the second leg of IPL 2021 in the UAE, where he is placed seventh in the points table. After the completion of the tournament, Sharma will return to international duties with the Men’s T20 World Cup, in which India begin their Super 12 campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24.
