The United Arab Emirates and Ireland confirmed their big tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia after reaching the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A in Al Amrat on Tuesday.
UAE restricted Nepal’s three-match winning run to a 68-run victory while Ireland beat Oman by 56 runs. At Oman Academy Ground 1, United Arab Emirates displayed clinical performance to reach the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the second time.
The UAE last made it to the global showpiece event in 2014. For Ireland, the only full member nation in Qualifier A, this will be their seventh appearance at a global showpiece event.

The two winning teams finished 13th and 14th for the tournament in Australia later this year, with the final two places to be decided in Qualifier B in July. Chasing a target of 176 for victory, Nepal were dealt a blow by early attacks from UAE pacer Junaid Siddiqui.
Tej was in top gear, eliminating the top three Nepal batsmen in his three-over spell. In a sensational opening over, Siddiqui dismissed opener Asif Sheikh and one-down batsman Lokesh Bam for two consecutive deliveries. Nepal were 3-2 in six balls and the chase seemed to be a tall order.
Batting first after losing the toss, Ireland made a total of 165/7. Gareth Delany played a brilliant innings of 47 runs in 32 balls. Oman started the powerplay well as Ireland’s generally reliable opening pair – Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie – thwarted them this time.
However, Delany and Harry Tector put on an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket to put pressure on the hosts. Tector was aggressive in the beginning, but once Delaney settled in, fireworks started at both ends of the wicket. Captain Zeeshan Maqsood in particular had a tough afternoon with the ball as Delany smashed three consecutive sixes to eat up his only over.
Bilal Khan had earlier dismissed both the openers and Kalimullah matched the efforts of his strike partner to plot Tector’s demise for a well-made 35. Lorcan Tucker followed suit on the very next ball, and Khawar Ali sent Delany back in the next over, with Oman having his tail up for the final leg of the innings. Even with good reason, as Ireland were precariously placed at 106/5 at the end of 14 overs. George Dockrell played a valuable 16-ball 18 but Andy McBrine provided the fuel to take Ireland past 150. His quick 36 runs included 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Bilal was Oman’s star performer with the ball, ending the day with figures of 3/23. In reply, Oman were bundled out for 109 runs in 18.3 overs. Shoaib Khan was the top scorer with 30. Oman equalized Ireland’s efforts in the batting powerplay, losing both their openers cheaply. Shoaib Khan and Zeeshan Maqsood (28) took the team forward with a 40-run partnership. Shoaib scored runs at a good pace and kept the asking rate in check. He dealt actively with Irish spinners, influencing the colors of Ireland’s game-changing fourth-wicket partnership on the first day. But once Josh Little took Shoaib’s wicket in the 11th over, Oman’s batting roster collapsed. Khurram Nawaz got out in the same over. Khawar Ali and Naseem Khushi soon followed him.
With no support from the other end, Maqsood was tasked to win the match on his own. His wicket in the 15th over put an end to all hopes of a successful Omani run-chase. Ireland cleaned up in the next four overs and finished on a fine win. Simi Singh posted his top performance with the ball, registering figures of 3/20 in 3.3 overs, but all but the bowlers hit boundaries. Josh Little, Craig Young and Andy McBrine took two wickets each.
