ICC Women’s World Cup 2022: The 2022 Women’s World Cup begins on March 4 with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies, while India, who were runners-up in 2017, will play their first match against Pakistan on March 6.

India will begin the 2022 Women’s World Cup next year with a match against Pakistan on March 6 as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the tournament’s schedule on Wednesday. New Zealand is hosting the World Cup this year and the hosts’ first match will be against West Indies at the Bay Oval in Tauranga on March 4, 2022.

Defending champions England will take on Australia the next day at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

A total of eight teams will compete in 31 matches that will be staged over 31 days.

The ICC stated that Australia, England, South Africa and India qualified for the event based on their positions in the ICC Women’s Championship 2017–20, while New Zealand automatically qualified as they were the hosts.

The tournament will initially be played in a league format, with all eight teams playing each other. The top four teams will then qualify for the semi-finals.

The first semi-final of the World Cup will be played on March 30 at The Basin Reserve in Wellington while the second semi-final will be played on March 31 at Hagley Oval.

The final of the tournament will be played on April 3. According to the ICC, there will be a reserve day in both the semi-finals and the final.
