IED explosion damages bridge on NH 2 in Manipur

In Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, a bridge on the National Highway 2 was partially damaged in an IED explosion early on Wednesday, April 24, which caused disruptions to traffic moving across the area, PTI report said.

Manipur police in a statement said, “A bridge on the National Highway 2 in ethnic violence-hit Manipur’s Kangpokpi district was partially damaged in an IED explosion early on Wednesday, disrupting traffic movement in the area.”

The improvised explosive device (IED) blast happened on the bridge between Sapermeina and Koubru Leikha areas at midnight at around 12:45 am, a police officer informed PTI .

The IED explosion caused severe physical damages that left three craters and cracks on both ends of the bridge. “No casualties were reported so far in the improvised explosive device (IED) blast, PTI quoted the police officer as saying.

In view of the current situation, movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge has been put on halt for some time which connects Manipur’s capital Imphal with Nagaland’s Dimapur.
