akhilesh yadav news After a video of an elephant walking on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway surfaced on the internet, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday sought to draw a parallel between the road works carried out during his rule and the current government.

Yadav’s remarks came days after a section of the Bundelkhand Expressway developed deep potholes due to heavy rains, a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 296-km-long road.

Sharing the 25-second long video in Hindi, Yadav tweeted, “It is a matter of good fortune (‘Gunnat’) that despite the restrictions, an elephant is being (seen) on the strong Agra-Lucknow Expressway maintained by the SP. was. Due to accidental detour on Bundelkhand Expressway, the road could not bear its weight and the elephant would have been injured.

“Where is the security for the expressway?” Akhilesh said.

“The incident happened near Agra. There was no harm (to anyone),” Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority CEO Avnish Awasthi told PTI.

He said the elephant got lost in the expressway as its mahout had stopped to avoid the rain.

“The mahout took his elephant,” the officer said, adding that no action was taken against him.
