Robin Uthappa said that MS Dhoni always takes responsibility for the result whatever the result makes him such a successful captain

India’s veteran opener Robin Uthappa told why M S Dhoni Has tasted great success as captain for both the Indian team and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni took the Indian team to great heights as captain in white-ball cricket as he guided them to all three limited-overs ICC titles – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI WC and 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni also led Chennai Super Kings to four IPL titles – second most after Mumbai Indians who have won it five times.

The legendary wicket-keeper batsman is regarded as one of the smartest minds in world cricket. His decision for DRS from behind the stumps is also second to none.

Uthappa said that Dhoni always takes responsibility for the result, whatever the result is which makes him such a successful captain.

“He has sharp instincts and he backs his instincts. That’s why he has been such a successful captain. He takes responsibility for every result, be it a win or a loss,” Uthappa said in an episode of ‘My Time With Heroes’ titled ‘My Time With Dhoni ft Uthappa’, available exclusively on GeoCinema .

Uthappa also revealed that Dhoni is an overthinker and does not sleep for days when a decision does not go in the team’s favour.

“If he takes a wrong decision because of his instincts, a man cannot sleep for a few days. He tends to overthink. If a good captain’s instincts are good 4 or 5 times out of 10, Dhoni’s instincts 8 or 9 times is good,” Uthappa said.

The former India and CSK opener also talked about Dhoni’s simplicity and called him the simplest person.

“His simplicity is something that has always been there and it is something that has not changed. He is still as simple as the first time they met. Uthappa said, Dhoni is the simplest person in the world.

The curtain raiser holders for the upcoming Indian Premier League season will see a contest between Gujarat Titans and Dhoni’s Yellow Army. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 31 March.
