‘If NCERT Textbook Removes Mughals, We Can’t Continue To Teach Them’: AHSEC

Textbooks containing chapters on the Mughals have already been distributed among Class 12 students in Assam with the academic session starting on April 1.

Amidst controversy over chapters of the Mughal Empire, Assam Higher Secondary Education The council (AHSEC) has said that if needed, it will make necessary changes in the syllabus of class 12th. Speaking on this, AHSEC Secretary Pulak Patgiri said, “If required, we will remove Mughal chapters from the Class 12 syllabus in Assam.”

It should be mentioned that the new textbooks already have lessons on the Mughal Empire in the hands of the students. Textbooks containing chapters on Mughals have already been distributed among Class 12 students in the state due to start the academic session from April 1. However, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu refrained from commenting on it.

Earlier there were reports that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) The decision to delete some chapters on the Mughal Empire from Class 12 history textbooks drew severe criticism. However, later the NCERT clarified that the chapters on the Mughals have not been dropped.

NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said Last year there was a process of rationalization due to Kovid-19, “This is a lie. (Chapter) Mughals has not been dropped. Last year there was a rationalization process as there was pressure on students everywhere due to COVID… Expert committees examined books of classes 6-12. They suggested that if this chapter is deleted, it will not affect the knowledge of the children and an unnecessary burden will be removed…the debate is unnecessary. Those who do not know can check the textbooks.”

In its revised syllabus of Class 12 history textbooks, the NCERT removed some chapters on the Mughal Empire. From Class 12 History book – ‘Topics of Indian History-Part II’, Chapters related to ‘Kings and History’; The Mughal court (c. 16th and 17th centuries)’ has been removed.
