Attacking the state’s main opposition BJP, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, ‘These people stop the work of old schemes as soon as the government changes.’

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said that if the Congress is re-elected in Rajasthan, the party’s government will further strengthen existing programs like the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme. He also targeted the state’s main opposition BJP, saying, “These people stop working on old schemes as soon as the government changes.”

The Chief Minister told reporters after a meeting to discuss the time-bound completion of the programs announced in Budget-2023 that if my (Congress) government reiterates, schemes like the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme will get a boost.

This was the last budget of the present government as assembly elections are due in the state later this year. Rajasthan has not repeated a single government in almost three decades.

Referring to the delay in the Barmer refinery project, Gehlot said that if the government changes after every five years, there is a loss.

“Had the government not changed, the refinery would have been completed by now, the petrochemical complex would have been completed, production would have started, millions of people would have benefited. It is the loss of changing governments,” he said.

He said, ‘These people (BJP) stop the work of old schemes as soon as the government changes. We do not stop the work of any of their plans… Our approach is different. That’s why I repeatedly ask the public to get our government re-formed so that the plans I have brought can be strengthened in the coming times.

On the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to Rajasthan, he said it would continue as “there is no other work for them (BJP) to pass”.

The Chief Minister claimed that the schemes and programs brought by his government would soon be part of the manifestos of political parties across the country.

“I want to act as the ‘first servant’ and keep coming up with “wonderful” schemes that otherwise would never have come through, he said.

Gehlot also accused Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat of being involved in the alleged Sanjeevani Credit Cooperative Society scam.

The Chief Minister said Shekhawat was trying to mislead the public, while the Special Operation Group (SOG) investigation has charged him on par with other arrested accused.

Gehlot demanded action by the Enforcement Directorate in the matter. Gehlot said, “Shekhawat, his father, his wife and his brother-in-law…are accused in this.”

“Many are lodged in jail. The Prime Minister should get the allegations leveled against him (Shekhawat) investigated.

During the meeting on budget announcements, Gehlot directed the officials for their timely implementation and said that his government was committed to take its welfare schemes to all.

According to an official statement, he said that all departments should work in close coordination to ensure successful implementation. He said that all sections of the society have been taken care of in the budget. He said that out of 2,722 announcements made in the last four budgets, more than 95 per cent approval has been issued.

The Chief Minister said that officers and employees play an important role in the successful implementation of budget announcements.

He said that the officers and employees of the state have done a commendable job in putting the public welfare schemes on the ground.

Chief Secretary Usha Sharma said that all the departments are working to implement the budget announcements in a time-bound manner.
