IIM Charts Post-Pandemic Preparedness Syllabus

Mumbai Indian Institute of Management (IIM)- India’s leading business schools including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Indore and Lucknow are introducing new disciplines to prepare students for management jobs in the post-pandemic world.

Accepting feedback from India Inc., IIMs will teach the upcoming batches how to handle attrition and human resources in startups, how to set up a fintech firm, compete in the times of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), and aspects of health management and blockchain.

“IIMs interact with industry leaders all the time and any changes or updates to India Inc.’s requirements are reflected in our study. This is how discipline marries domain expertise,” Debashish Chatterjee, director, IIM-Kozhikode, told Mint.

“Topics that now need to be taught include climate change and its effects on trade, and aspects of foreign policy,” he said.

India’s premier institutes changed their subjects and introduced electives that resonate with the changes in the corporate world. Some of them may be compulsory while others are elective.

IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) said the courses are being offered to students keeping in mind the additional skill requirements for future managers, observing how businesses have evolved for the post-pandemic reality.

They include: happiness, emotional stability and authentic living; The Privacy Paradox: Artificial Intelligence and Digital Platforms; Economic Thoughts of Ancient India; and modern retail management in the omnichannel world. The IIM-A has introduced them in the last two years and the 2023 batch will have over 15 fresh electives to choose from.

At IIM Lucknow, the new batch will get the option to choose from Understanding HR in Startups, Total Rewards and Measures; Legal aspects of banking and negotiable instruments; Financial institution building and management among other subjects marks.

“In this post-pandemic world, industries have seen a significant increase in demand for graduates skilled not only in technical skills, which include knowledge about data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, Python etc., but who excel in managerial They also acquire leadership and communication skills, said Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM-Indore (IIMI). Some of the new electives at IIMI are Financial Macroeconomics, AI and ML for Business, Python Hands-on and Regression Analysis for Managers.
