Starting with the 2022-24 PGP batch, IIM-V has decided to launch a merit-based scholarship scheme to supplement the existing need-based financial aid. Eight students – two from each section – will get a maximum exemption of Rs 6 lakh each under the merit-based scholarship initiative.

times of IndiaProf M Chandrasekhar, Director, IIM-Vizag said that IIM-V, being a centrally funded institution, is committed to sustainable, socially equitable outcomes. “To achieve inclusiveness and ensure that no student is deprived of education due to financial issues, the institute has decided to expand its student scholarship portfolio through merit-based financial aid. This is expected to bring in the best of talent and encourage them to do their best in management education. Around 17.5% of the 2021-23 batch have got at least 30% tuition fee waiver. We are also encouraging and assisting students to apply for scholarships being offered by various external agencies,” said Prof Chandrashekhar.

The Director of IIM-V said that the 2022-24 batch will be the first to be residential in the permanent campus. “Meanwhile, we are also increasing our capacity to train students to meet the demands of the industry and technological changes. IIM-Vizag will have 35-36 adept faculty for the new batch, which is the highest among all the new IIMs,” said Prof Chandrashekhar.

Admissions President, IIM-Visakhapatnam, Prof. Milan Kumar, said that Information Systems will be made a core curriculum for the PGP 2022-24 batch. “Technological disruption and the rapidly changing e-commerce landscape have made technology management skills a necessity. Entrepreneurship has been introduced as a core course in the PGP program last year. The institute is restructuring its PGP curriculum to meet the changing industrial requirements and technological advancements. We want to match global standards both in terms of education and technology,” said Prof. Milan.

Prof Milan said that students can avail placement holidays and work in their own start-up or company, which means they can join the campus recruitment process of the institute after a year or two. “However, they may turn to deferred placements only in the worst-case scenario when their entrepreneurial dreams fail,” said Prof. Milan Kumar.
