IIT Hyderabad starts three new BTech courses from 2021-22 – Times of India

Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) is all set to offer three new industry-oriented BTech programs in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Computational Engineering and Industrial Chemistry from the academic year 2021-22.

The BTech curriculum in the three new programs offers students the opportunity to take courses from all branches of Science, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the first two semesters.

In the sixth semester, students can opt for semester-long projects that provide the opportunity to work and gain experience in biotech, pharma, manufacturing, IT, data analysis, chemical informatics, and a gradual transition to full-time jobs.

“The curriculum for BTech in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is designed to integrate in-demand bioinformatics including artificial intelligence and soft computing, web technologies, structural biology, biological data mining, image processing, modeling and simulation, systems biology and biostatistics. Designed to train students with skills and ensure complete industry readiness of the students,” said Prof. Anindya Roy, Head of Biotechnology, IIT-H.

In addition to the specialized curriculum designed for the three programmes, students will also have the opportunity to increase their depth in the subject by starting elective courses from another department. They can pursue a minor in their areas of interest, such as entrepreneurship, computer science, etc., outside the department, by completing 12 additional credits in that field.
