Iit-k to showcase 12 R&D projects at iinventiv | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Will performance 12 significant R&D projects in the domain at iInventive, a mega R&D showcase among IITs to be held at IIT-Delhi from October 14-15.
The event will be the first instance where all 23 IITs will come under a single platform to highlight India’s global R&D prowess and explore more collaborative avenues between state universities and institutions, industry and IITs to ensure holistic R&D impact . ground level.
Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan will be the chief guest.
iInventive will have six showcase projects on a variety of topics and a total of 75 projects. IIT-Kanpur will lead the demonstration on drone technology and jointly lead the demonstration on 5G technologies with IIT-Madras. Professor of Aerospace Engineering, IIT-Kanpur. In the context of 5G, IIT-Kanpur developed the Baseband Unit (BBU) of a 5G NR Base Station under a multi-IIT project funded by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, to develop an indigenous 5G testbed for India.
Prof. Rohit Budhiraja, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT KanpurWill jointly lead the 5G Technology Showcase, which will also highlight India’s 5G rollout and key issues.
Director, IIT Kanpur, Professor Abhay Karandikar said, “As India moves towards the nectar era, critical R&D across all sectors is the need of the hour. At IIT-Kanpur, we always have a front foot approach when it comes to research and innovation at the national as well as grassroots level. We are delighted to present twelve of our projects to iInventive and lead the demonstration of drone and 5G technologies. I believe the event will highlight India’s global R&D potential and bring industry and academia closer to accelerate collaborative development across sectors.
IIT-Kanpur filed a record-breaking 107 patents (97 national and 10 international) last year, the highest in the history of the institute. This is a testament to the R&D strength of the institute. The selection of 12 projects for iInventive also makes IIT-Kanpur the institution with the highest-approved projects to perform. These include IITpKanpur’s invention of TacVibes: a novel watch for the visually impaired, equipped with haptic sensors, and a tactile interface with tactile hour indicators; and GeoTestak, a hand-held soil testing instrument that can track soil health within 90 seconds. It is a revolutionary invention which aims at reducing the time and hassle of farmers in testing their soil.
The institute will also demonstrate a rapid water quality test that can detect water quality with better accuracy at an affordable cost, an M15 fueled two-wheeler prototype in the alternative fuel sector, IoT-based air quality sensor and real-time chemical analysis. The two-day fair will see representatives from IITs, and several other higher education as well as small-town institutions; Industry, and government institutions, together. Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur will also be present as a panelist for the panel discussion to be held on 14th October, the inaugural day of iInventive. Attendees will be able to view the projects in designated booths at the venue.

In its first year, iInventive is a R&D fair organized under the supervision of a Steering Committee headed by Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, BOG IIT-Madras; Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, President, BOG IIT-Hyderabad and IIT-Roorkee. The event marks the coming together of all the 23 IITs under one umbrella to showcase their respective research and innovation expertise to create more awareness around them.
The mega R&D showcase celebrates 75 years of India’s independence as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and is associated with Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India and Digital India initiatives. The objective of this fair is to seek collaboration between state institutions, industries and higher academics for future research and innovations.
